Les Filles de Illighadad

  • GA DOORS 7:00PM

Sahel Sounds recording artists Les Filles de Illighadad perform in the Music Box Village to kick off our 2020 Jazz Fest programming!

“If you listen long enough, and make yourself open enough, it is possible to reach a kind of holy place while experiencing the music of the Tuareg quartet.” - The New Yorker

Saharan tuareg musicians dubbed “heavy, meditative and tender” in a recent New Yorker profile, Les Filles de Illighadad visit New Orleans for a rare evening of magical and evocative sounds in the forest of the Music Box Village! Fatou Seidi Ghali, lead vocalist and performer of Les Filles de Illighadad is one of the only Tuareg female guitarists in Niger. Originally sneaking away with her older brother’s guitar, she taught herself to play around 8 years ago, and in a place where gender norms have created two divergent styles of music, Fatou and the band are reasserting the role of their own music, tende, in Tuareg guitar.

VIP UPGRADE includes early entry to the venue, a dedicated VIP lounge with cash bar open throughout the event, reserved viewing area, and a framed art poster. Upgrade does not include admission and should be purchased in tandem with a ticket.
